Heading there in a couple weeks.

We are headed to Yellowstone, but camping is closed, we are camping in Grand Teton for 4 nights. Then staying in a resort in Jackson Hole, then on to Boulder for 4 nights then back to Cincy.

First time in that neck of the woods. Last minute trips.

When I was there in 1980 I thought it was the most beautiful place on earth. I still think that. Keep in mind no matter the season it can get really cold there.

Been thru both Yellowstone and Grand Tetons 4-5 times over the years.. I've camped in the Tetons once. Stay away from any water source.. Never seen so many mosquitos in any camping venture as was there.

Thanks for the info guys!

Is it really as bad as they say about bears and food there?

Also, are there restaurants near by for dinners? We are staying at Coulter Bay Camp groiund.

Thanks!

Bears aren't looking for trouble.. best to seal any kind of food up to not attract them. wtf do you need to know about restaurants if you're camping bro ..

I know right? Lol. We will go to down for dinner at night after hikes. Cook breakfast and lunch at the site. My GF is terrified that cooking and having to clean stuff will attract bears. Haha

I’m in Cincinnati. We camp down in KY, IN and WV a lot. But she is panicked about the wild life out west.

Also, what’s the firewood situation. We usually bring it from home to our sites here. Are they pretty strict with it out there?

Not sure how dry it is over there. Sometimes these parks ban fires. Probably not this early though. I've never brought wood to a campsite. Always can search around for it. Broken and dead limbs etc.

I live in Northern Wyoming and have been to Jackson Hole many times. You must be camping in a tent if your worried about bears. Your in such a big campground you will be fine. Most gas stations sell bundles of fire wood and I'm sure the campsite will too. Its really lush and green here now so no worries about fire bans for at least another month or more.

Teton Village has a few nice restaurants. I suggest the Mangy Moose but I haven't been there in a while. https://www.mangymoose.com/

If your in Jackson and looking for a drink, you must saddle up at the Cowboy bar. All the bar stools are saddles. Cool place.

Yellowstone National Park is a great place to visit. We are in the park every year.

Thanks for the info!

We are heading to Colter Bay. They don’t take reservations. We will be getting there early Friday do you think we will have trouble getting a tent site? Looks like some lodges and hotels are closed. Hope this works in our favor with the crowd and a lot of people canceled their trips.

I'm really don't know how fast Coulter Bay will fill up. I know its a big camp site but never stayed there. I haven't been in the park this year so not sure how busy it has been but getting there early would probably be a good idea.

If you want to have nice fires every night, I would buy bundles of firewood and bring them with you, every gas station in Wyoming has them and they get more expensive the closer to the park you get. Not sure they will let you walk through the woods for firewood and if they did it would be picked clean anyway.

I see the Yellowstone Lake Lodge is closed. Too bad, that is a cool place. I stayed there a few years ago after their renevation.

You driving through South Dakota and Wyoming or going through North Dakota and Montana?

Coming through Nebraska. Leaving out of Cincinnati.

We usually bring our own wood. Do they actually check if we would do that?

Thanks for those who gave advice. Had a great trip. No bear encounters other than one morning we were leaving the campground and a mama and 3 cubs were making their way through.

Saw moose, elk, wolf, bison, etc. sweet trip.

Went and checked out the Cowboy bar and Mangy Moose for breakfast.

Yellowstone over rated. Old faithful was old faithful. Although there was a random bison that got kicked out of the heard and made his way to the geyser. Haha

We camped at Coulter Bay. Ok campground. Nice cool evenings. There was a restaurant on the campground that had decent food. Bit pricey, but all take out due to covid. We didn’t want to mess with food at the camp site due to bears and other animals. And we were driving 2000 miles to get there.

There was, on two occasions where something brushed against our tent in the weee hour of the mornings. Most likely a Fox. Ranger said they will come through and take random shit if left out. Haha

Camped 3 nights left a night early due to heavy rain. Stayed a night in Jackson. It was a cool little town. Our hotel was pricey, but after driving through the town we saw nice little ma and pop hotels for 1/2 what we paid.

Went to the cowboy bar. The saddle bar stools was a nice addition, but pretty uncomfortable to sit on for a extended period of time.

Did a lot of hiking and hit teton village which was a ghost town. Mangy Moose has good breakfast, not sure about their other food. Again, all six foot separation.

Yellowstone campgrounds and lodging was closed. I’d advise if you are planning on going to more than one park just get the yearly pass.

Spent some time in Boulder, Co too. Always thought Colorado would be my go to place to move. Not any more. If I had a choice it would be some where in Wyoming. We spent the night in Debois, WY too. Nice little town about 45 mins from Tetons.
